PrintXpress - step and repeat

PrintXpress is built with an aim to expand the functionalities in a standard Windows driver, to help making production life simple and easy for the operators.  Two of the new features added to the app is step and repeat of a job, another is JPEG, PNG file format import.

Very often a job comes in like a name card or ticket, it can be printed by placing it side by side and repeated it for several rows to occupy the whole sheet to save material cost. We have added this feature called step and repeat just to cater for that.

Immediately after a job is added to the ready queue, there is a button for the operator to wake up this step and repeat function call.  This will allow the operator to  set up the parameter like gutters and trim marks. Once that is done, it will immediately produce the job.  Operator can view the layout set in PDF to confirm all is done correctly before sending to the active queue for printing.

Another useful feature for PrintXpress is the JPEG file format import.  As we all know a JPEG image does not define the actual print size, the first thing we have to do when the job is loaded, is to define the size of job we want to output.  Once the width and height is entered, it will immediately scale it to tiff format ready for printing.

Again with PrintXpress, operator can also take advantage of the step and repeat function to organise the file to take up all the space on the paper size provided.

Exactly the same process again based on the previous steps, we can have a step and repeated job from the JPEG file we have just imported.

There are other useful features that will enhance the productivity of PrintXpress, we will talk about job imposition, automatic ganging of multiple jobs, on another time.

Who will need Compose’s new Product - PrintXpress?

In today’s Printing industry, whether it is Inkjet or Laser Printing, hardware vendors keep bringing out new models every 18 months. Customers have no choice but to go back to their RIP supplier to update their new drivers, otherwise they cannot use the new Printer.  Compose today comes up with a new alternative; why not use an application which will only use the windows driver to print.  We know all the reasons why customers cannot use it in the past, but not anymore.

This new application is now called PrintXpress.

It will support a wide range of printers in the market, not only that it comes with a Queue management solution as standard, but it also comes with a long list of printing applications such as Step and Repeat, Label Printing, and Variable data printing to enhance productivity.
Active and ready Queue for printing

Held and Error Queue for taking further action
We believe digital printing in the future will be very demanding; it has to be capable of printing many different types of work.  PrintXpress will provide proprietary solutions for book printing, labels, variable data, Step and Repeat on name cards or address labels, making sure implementation is done seamlessly.

Additional features in the pipeline
PrintXpress will integrate Express RIP for advanced color management, this will allow users to add ICC profile, making sure it can print accurately and meet a color standard.
For those who require to print accurate spot color, Compose can provide a LAB look up table, to simplify color matching for Spot color.
Jobs can be previewed in thumb nail and full view

With all the years of experience, Compose can also provide advance production solutions, like Auto Imposition, Variable data printing for labels, or tickets.  In the future we plan to offer auto ganging for different size of jobs, taking care of different assorted printing quantities.

Support input profile such as JPEG, PNG, TIF, PDF, PostScript and. . . .

New Features on pressSIGN 7

New pressSIGN 7 logo

As part of the continuing upgrade policy Bodoni is happy to launch the next release of pressSIGN 7, on 1 July 2015. The next revision contains features which not only enhance the integration of GPM for corporate customers, but also have new features to enhance print quality, bringing pressSIGN to become a solution nobody can afford not to have.

New features in pressSIGN 7 are:
  • ·         New dry back feature including spot colors
New Dry Back feature including spot colors
  • ·         Sitegroups (GPM only)
  • ·         Ink Substitution
  • ·         Color library sychnonization updated(GPM only)
  • ·         Automode
  • ·         Automode aliasing using wild cards
  • ·         Job Templates
  • ·         Open Jobs from URL links
  • ·         Server Monitor application

Sitegroups - GPM
To help print management and multi-site companies organise sites and improving the monitoring capability we can now create site groups with their own administrator(s). Companies or sites can be in several sitegroups. This enables sites to be organised and administered in different ways, for example, by region and by print process.

Ink Substitution - GPM
pressSIGN is used by many large packaging companies that are constantly changing spot colors from one job to the next. They want to run with the same color bar all the time. In the latest version of pressSIGN GPM they will be able to swap out the CMYK colors for spots and pressSIGN will happily measure and report.

Syncing color libraries - GPM
We introduced the facility to sync a color library from a central server to multiple sites in version 6. Version 7 updates the facility by selecting which libraries are synced and which are not and applies this to sitegroups.

Templates
Fed up with typing in the same information into a new job window? pressSIGN 7 introduces Templates. In the new job window create a job with all the features you want and make this a template that you can use over and over again. No more duplication of typing, just add the new job name. Job templates can be edited so they can be refreshed with updated settings.

Automode - GPM
The new Auotmode feature enables pressSIGN to monitor a hot folder and automatically pick up the file and populate pressSIGN. The first introduction of Automode is for SVF files only. That is files coming from Intellitrax, EasyTrax and Komori PDCS.

Working with Templates pressSIGN Automode can pick up complete job details and means operators don't need to duplicate job set ups in both closed loop systems and pressSIGN.

Hot folder Aliasing with wild cards
To make auto mode even more powerful and effective we can use aliases to represent much more sophisticated information. For example, A project called XYZ can be used select a template that produces a new job in pressSIGN with the correct print target, the color bar, the client, the press, the ink & paper, a category and who the operator is.

Aliasing also helps in replacing inappropriate special colors with the correct spots. For example the original library may only have Pantone library, but now you want to replace these with the new Pantone + series. pressSIGN will swap out the old colors and guide the operator to the correct target for the new library.
